Innovation week was an event to create the spirit of Entrepreneurship and spread awareness on ethics of Entrepreneurship. The events conducted throughout the week had indulged Entrepreneurial activities right from forming a problem, solution forming and marketing skills.
The Inauguration commenced on 25th February 2019 at 09:45 am in the conference Hall of 1st year campus with THAMIZH THAI VAZHTHU and Lighting the Kuthuvilaku. The compering was done by Mr. Adithya Krishna. G. L of 1st year I-section and Ms. Sai Hari Prita. R of 1st year E-section. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. N. S. Shubhashree DEAN, E&S, followed by the Presidential Address by Dr.Rama Vaidyanathan Director of R&D. Dr. D. B. Jebaraj Joint Registrar of E&S felicitated the audience. He appreciated Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for conducting innovative events for the first year community. There was a session on Leadership Development in the Digital Age by The Chief Guest Ms. Bhanurekha Condur, Associate Vice President of Sutherland Global Services. She gave a deep explanation on the Digital Disruption linking that with few examples, Digital Trend, Digital Age and how transformed our life is due to the impact of the digitalizing. The briefing about the various events in Innovation Week 2K19 was given by Innofy E-cell Chairman Mr. P. Nithish Raj of 2nd year, Department of Biotechnology. The inauguration ended with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Bhuvaneshwari Nagarajan, Manager of Dr. MGR DST NewGen IEDC.
CAN YOU SELL ?
Marketing is the most important segment as of any business is concerned. So to cultivate and test marketing skills among students, CAN YOU SELL? was conducted. Prithika ma’am and Reena ma’am made all the 39 participants to team up.
Random team was called out and were asked to pick a chit where Reena ma’am had written few imaginary products including flying apartment, doggler, ruin day, etc. Then after a minute of prep time the seller had to convince the Jury, Ms. Chitra, a research scholar on Marketing. Enthusiasm was shown by all the teams to sell the products they picked. It ended getting the remark of a fun filled business related event.
As a part of Innovation week, the first-year students participated in the quiz- preliminary competition. A total of 16 teams participated. Every individual team consisted of two members. The competition was targeted for all the courses, and hence had a mixture of different student from department in each team. The questions were also chosen on the grounds of general knowledge. The competition had a single round “fastest fingers first”. The team that gave the right answer would fetch the mark. 6 teams were qualified for the final round. The energy level of students was astounding. Even though only few teams qualified for the final round, the other teams were very competitive and displayed team spirit.
The final round consisted for general Q&A followed by a buzzer round where the teams were asked to download the buzzer application and use that for the buzzer round. The levels included a logo round, rapid fire round and general questioning round based on entrepreneurship and branding.
TECH IDEATHON (26/2/2019 – 9:30AM – 12:30PM)
A Crash course on Innovative thinking for a group of 65 students was conducted by Dr. Rama Vaidhyanathan, Director(R&D). The workshop covered all the aspects of why and how to think out of the box. Students engaged themselves in activities to come up with different ideas. They also learnt the Design thinking methodology for prototyping. The importance of Empathising with people facing a problem, defining the problem and then ideating! They were also taught to do this with some examples.
TREASURE HUNT(26/2/2019 – 12:30PM- 5:00PM)
As a part of Innovation week, the first-year students participated in the treasure hunt. A total of 16 teams participated. Every individual team consisted of four members. The competition was targeted for all the courses, and hence had a mixture of different student from department in each team. The participants were given fun activities including blow the balloon, caterpillar, hand the paper and few more. Only the 2 teams were shortlisted for the final treasure hunt. Where the riddles were handpicked. The riddles were hidden in the most unexpected places. The teams were also asked to sing to get the final round of paper. On a whole, the treasure hunt was a super hit. Though only two teams were selected all the 16 teams showed full enthusiasm and coordinated well with their other team members.
Pict-a-meme was an online event where students were asked to take a picture from our campus and create a meme out of it and submit it to Bhuvi ma’am. Bhuvi ma’am uploaded those pictures on our facebook page. Only 5 students submitted the pictures. The picture with the maximum likes won.
Lead by Arun Sir and his team consisting of Rizwan sir, Dinesh, Riyaz, Dheepak and John and the special invitee Vishal and Prateek Raj, the Simulation game was a hit. There was a record of 12 teams when we were expecting only 5 teams a day bebfore. As each team worked to produce paper ships they had to handle the Pollution Control Board and ISO Certification. The pollution control Board went around with a Noise Detection kit and any team which made more than 70 deci bell sound was fined! The Bank suddenly announced a demonetization drive and all Rs. 100 had to be returned. The teams were then charged a tax and few of them were prisoned for not adhering to the terms and conditions mentioned before. The 2 teams with the maximum boats made according to the specifications given were awarded as the winner and the runner-up.
The valedictory commenced on 1st March 2019 at 01:59 pm in the conference Hall of 1st year campus with THAMIZH THAI VAZHTHU. The compering was done by Rahul and Kavitha. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. N. S. Shubhashree DEAN, E&S, followed by the report of the Innovation week 2019 by Innofy E-cell Chairman Nithish Bhaiya. After that was the Presidential Address by Dr. Rama Vaidyanathan Director of R&D. Ms. Indra from Department of English welcomed the Chief Guest. She invited the Chief Guest Ms. Shantilakshmi Murali, Secretary, Confederation of Women Entrepreneur of India. Ms. Shantilakshmi Murali shared her experience as an entrepreneur. She quoted that there is no age limit to think and to start doing something new. She strongly agreed with Paulo Coelho’s quote that “If you want to achieve something, the whole universe conspires in helping you achieve it”. This was followed by the prize distribution for the various events. The highlighted overall championship award was given on the basis of number of participants, winners, runner-up, co-ordinators and the organizers for which the A Section swiped away the Award. And the Innovation week came to an end with the vote of thanks by Bhuvna ma’am followed by National anthem.
